Image Description

We are evaluating the effect of an investigational medication on blood glucose levels in children and adolescents with type 2 diabetes, to assess its efficacy and safety.

Asclepes Research Centers in collaboration with Jannsen Research & Development are performing a study for Pediatrics type 2 Diabetes, to learn more click here.

Children and adolescents 10 to 17 years of age with type 2 diabetes who are currently on a diet and exercise schedule and/or taking medications to treat diabetes may qualify.

Treatment process

During the study, you may undergo the following:

If your child is eligible, he or she will receive either the investigational medication or placebo. Your child has a 50% chance of receiving either the investigational medication or placebo.

To prevent any opinions about the investigational medication or placebo from affecting the study, you, your child, the study doctor, and the study staff will not know the study medication assignments (investigational or placebo). However, in the event of an emergency, this information can be quickly provided.

Your child will take his or her study medication (investigational or placebo) once a day for 54 weeks. If your child is already taking metformin and/or insulin for type 2 diabetes, he or she will be allowed to continue taking these during the study.
Your child’s total participation in this study will last about 59 weeks, which includes approximately 11 study clinic visits for tests and assessments, as well as two phone calls from the study staff.
There is no guarantee your child will benefit from this study. It is also possible your child could experience a side effect during this study. Some of the side effects could be mild, uncomfortable, or serious.

Benefits

Eligible study participants will receive study-related medical care, glucose/ketone meter and all supplies, the investigational medication (or placebo) at no cost, and compensation for study-related travel may be provided.
